The Westland Wessex was built as a licensed British version of the American Sikorsky H-34 helicopter, equipped with turboprop propulsion. The HC.2 version, introduced in the early 1960s, was intended primarily for the Royal Air Force as a transport and rescue helicopter. The machine could carry up to 16 fully armed soldiers or equivalent cargo and its reliability made it the backbone of the British Helicopter Air Force.

The Wessex HC.2 was used in many roles, from transport and airborne operations, to casualty evacuations and search and rescue missions. It has made significant contributions to operations in Malaysia, Cyprus and during the conflicts in Northern Ireland. Its long service lasted until the 1980s when it was gradually replaced by more modern types.

The 1/72nd scale Airfix Classic Kit brings a model of this iconic helicopter in a traditional design. It offers the opportunity to build a Cold War era RAF machine and is suitable for anyone interested in post-war military aviation.

The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
