The M3 Lee was an American medium tank produced from 1941, intended as a transitional solution before the advent of the more modern M4 Sherman. The Mid Production version included turret upgrades and changes to the periscope and armament layout. The tank was characterized by an unusual arrangement of weapons, with the 75mm main gun mounted in the side lafette, while the 37mm gun was located in the turret.
The M3 Lee tanks were heavily deployed in the North Africa campaign, where they were used mainly by the British Army (under the name Grant) and American troops. Despite some obsolescence, they proved to be effective mainly due to their strong armament and reliability.
