The Short SB.6 Seamew is a British single-engine airborne aircraft developed for the Fleet Air Arm (FAA), the aviation arm of the Royal Navy. It was designed as a post-war type primarily for maritime reconnaissance, surveillance and anti-submarine warfare tasks.m warfare, where there was a need for a relatively lightweight machine capable of operating from the decks of aircraft carriers and working close to naval alliances. The Seamew is one of the less common British deck types, making it an interesting subject for the Royal Navy's aircraft collection.

Key to deck service was the emphasis on maneuverability at low speeds, reliability and the ability to operate in saltwater and changeable weather environments. The Seamew was conceived as a 'working' aircraft for day-to-day deployment, where search, surveillance andand relaying information, or working with ships to patrol and protect convoys. In the context of the times, it falls in the early Cold War period when naval aviation was rapidly evolving and looking for an effective solution for reconnaissance and anti-submarine tasks.

From a modeler's point of view, the Seamew is attractive mainly as a deck plane with a typical "naval" silhouette and the possibility to build it in FAA colors. It is suitable both as a stand-alone model in a display case and as part of a deck diorama with on-board equipment and figures. The cabin glazing tends to be a prominent feature, so the included masks are a handy aid for clear painting the frames.

The Sword Models SW72157 Short SB.6 Seamew kit (1/72nd scale) includes decals for 2 variations of the Fleet Air Arm markings and masks are also included. Package does not include paint or glue.
