1/72 SAAB Safir „in Swedish Services“

The Saab 91 Safir is a Swedish single-engine trainer aircraft whose first flight took place on 20 November 1945. In the post-war period it became an important type for training and operations in Sweden, and also an example of how rapidly aviation was modernised after World War II. The aircraft was produced as both a three-seater and a four-seater and, in addition to production at Saab in Linköping, was also licensed to De Schelde in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Production took place between 1946 and 1966 and a total of 323 were built.

Interestingly, in addition to the standard versions, experimental variants were also produced for low-speed tests of the arrow wing. These tests helped to validate aerodynamic solutions for Swedish jet fighter aircraftSaab 29 and Saab 32, so the Safir also played a role in the wider development of Swedish fighter aircraft.

The 1/72nd scale kit by Kovozávody Prostějov (cat. KPM0523) is focused on the "in Swedish Services" design and offers a model with plastic mouldings from new moulds. Included are decals for the 4 camouflage schemes in Swedish Service, so you can choose from multiple markings and coloring options. The finished model has approximate dimensions of 147mm span and 108mm length. The manufacturer states a difficulty level of 3, so this is a kit suitable for modellers with basic experiencewho want an elegant post-war type in attractive Swedish markings. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
