1/72 SAAB Safir „in Nordic Services“

The Saab 91 Safir is a Swedish single-engine trainer aircraft that first flew on 20. It is one of the typical representatives of the post-war development of aviation, when the emphasis was on modern training machines for military and civilian purposes. The aircraft was produced as both a three-seater and a four-seater and, in addition to production at Saab in Linköping, was also licensed to De Schelde in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Production took place between 1946 and 1966 and a total of 323 were built, confirming that this was a successful and long-lasting type.

Another interesting chapter in the history of the Safir is the experimental versions used to test the arrow wing at low speeds. These tests helped to validate solutions for the Swedish Saab 29 and Saab 32 jet fighters, givingthis "unassuming" trainer a surprisingly important place in the development of Swedish aviation.

The 1/72 scale kit by Kovozávody Prostějov (cat. KPM0521) presents a model of the Safir with plastic mouldings from new moulds. Included are decals for 4 camouflage schemes, so you can choose from multiple rendering options. Finished model has approximate dimensions of 147mm span and 108mm length. The manufacturer states difficulty 3, so it is suitable for modelers with basic experiencebut will also please as a clean, elegant build for a collection of post-war aircraft. The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
