1/72 SAAB Safir „in Civilian Services“
The 1/72 scale Saab 91 Safir "in Civilian Services" kit by Kovozávod Prostějov represents the Swedish single-engine trainer, which after its first flight 20. On its first flight on November 1945 it found its way not only in training, but also in civilian services. The Safir was produced in both three and four-seat variants and, in addition to Sweden, was also licensed in the Netherlands. The kit includes plastic mouldings of the new moulds and decals for four civilian camouflage schemes. The package does not include the paints or glues needed for assembly.
The Saab 91 Safir is a Swedish single-engine aircraft originally designed primarily for training, which allHowever, thanks to its versatility and good flight characteristics, it has also found application outside of a purely military environment. It first flew on 20 November 1945 and became a typical representative of the post-war era, when aviation was developing rapidly in both the military and the civilian sector. The aircraft was produced as both a three-seater and a four-seater, and production took place not only at Saab in Linköping, but also under licence from De Schelde in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Production lasted from 1946-1966 and a total of 323 units were produced.
An interesting feature of the Safir's history is the experimental versions that were used to test the arrow wing at low speeds. These tests helped to validate the solutions for the Swedish Saab 29 and Saab 32 jet fighters, so the Safir also played a role in the development of more modern types.
The Prostějov Metalworks kit (cat. KPM0522) in 1/72 scale is aimed at the "in Civilian Services" version and offers a model with plastic mouldings from new moulds. Included are decals for 4 camouflage schemes (civilian coloration/registration as per kit), making it ideal forideal for modelers who want something different from the usual military markings. Finished model has approximate dimensions of 147mm wingspan and 108mm length. The manufacturer states a difficulty of 3. The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
