The PZL P.11 fighter aircraft, developed in Poland in the early 1930s, became a characteristic type of the interwar period. Romania purchased the licence for its production and IAR Brașov created a variant designated P.11F, equipped with a different engine and minor design changes. These machines formed the backbone of the Romanian Air Force at the beginning of World War II and were deployed in the battles against the Soviet Union.
