1/72 Grumman TBF-1C Avenger

The Grumman TBF Avenger was one of the most important deck planes of the US Navy during World War II. It was created in response to the need for a modern destroyer capable of carrying heavy armament and operating from aircraft carriers under the harsh conditions of the Pacific theater. The first combat deployment at Midway in June 1942 was a baptism of fire for the Avengers, with six of the machines returningonly one was returned - but the type quickly proved its worth and became the backbone of the U's torpedo and bomber units.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The Avenger could carry torpedoes, bombs, depth charges, or rockets, and was useful not only in attacking ships but also in supporting airborne forces, patrolling, and fighting submarines.

The TBF-1C version was an improved variant with enhanced armament - instead of one machine gun in each wingwhich increased firepower in attacking ground targets and defending against fighters. This configuration proved particularly useful during operations in the second half of the war, when Avengers were increasingly involved in attacks on Japanese bases, ships and ground infrastructure. The crew consisted of three members: a pilot, a gunner/radar operator and a lower gunner who manned the machine gun turret. Its rugged construction and ability to survive heavy damage made it a popular machine among crews.
