Plastic model of F-14D Tomcat, two-seat supersonic fighter aircraft with variable wing geometry, scale 1:72 by Great Wall Hobby. This kit depicts the final and most advanced "D" variant, known as the "Super Tomcat". The model features a high level of detail, precision-finished panels and the ability to build the wings in extended or retracted position.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a legendary supersonic fighter aircraft that served in the U.S. Navy as an air superiority fighter. Its distinguishing feature was its variable wing geometry and ability to carry the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missile. The aircraft was developed in response to Soviet fighter aircraft and was deployed in 1974. The F-14D variant, nicknamed the "Super Tomcat", represented the pinnacle of the machine's development. It first flew in 1989 and entered service in 1991. It was equipped with new, more powerful General Electric F110-GE-400 engines, upgraded avionics, including a digital cockpit and an integrated infrared sensor for target acquisition and tracking (IRST). The F-14D Tomcat has become the most efficient and sophisticated version of the aircraft. It served until 2006, when it was replaced by the F/A-18 Hornet.
This 1:72 scale kit from Great Wall Hobby offers a detailed and modern model of the F-14D version. The manufacturer is known for its emphasis on precision and quality, which is reflected in the fine engraving of the paneling and the rich detail of the cockpit and landing gear wells. The model includes two sets of nozzles (closed and open), which adds to the realism. The wings can be assembled in extended or retracted position, allowing the aircraft to be rendered in a variety of configurations. The package also includes masking tape to cover the cockpit, which makes the paint job much easier. The kit also includes a wide variety of armament, including AIM-54 Phoenix, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles.
The kit does not contain paint or glue. These essential items must be purchased separately.
