1/72 B-17F Flyng Fortress
Italeri 1/72 B-17F Flying Fortress is a plastic kit of one of the most famous American four-engine bomber legends of WWII. The B-17F version was deployed in Europe during the raids on Germany and in the Mediterranean, where it was renowned for its durability and ability to return home with serious damage. The 1/72 scale model captures the distinctive shapes of the early "Flying Fortress" version with its detailed fuselage, glass nose and authentic defensive armament positions.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most famous strategic bombers of World War II and became a symbol of the American air offensive against Nazi Germany. The B-17F version, introduced in 1942, was the first widely deployed variant without the iconic "chin" turret, but with enhanced armament, an improved fuselage and a new nose design. These machines were flown by the 8th and 15th Air Force on daily bombing missions over both Europe and North Africa, often at the cost of heavy losses. It was on the B-17F that legendary machines like the "Memphis Belle" were built, famous for their durability and strength in the air.
The crew consisted of ten men and the defensive armament consisted of up to thirteen .50 caliber machine guns, deployed in the side windows, upper and lower turrets, nose and tail. The B-17F could carry more than 2 tons of bombs and, due to its high endurance, was able to sustain flight even with extensive damage to the wings or engines, contributing to its exceptional reputation.
The Italeri 1/72 B-17F Flying Fortress kit features a detailed fuselage with fine surface engraving, realistically rendered Wright R-1820 engines, accurate gunner stations and a glass nose typical of this version. In 1/72 scale, it provides the ideal balance between size, detail and presentation, either as a stand-alone model or as part of a larger diorama dedicated to American strategic bombing.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
