1/72 Aichi E16A1 Zuiun Early
Hobby 2000 1/72 Aichi E16A1 Zuiun Early Fujimi + Cartograf + Masks is a plastic model of a Japanese WWII seaplane designed for gluing. The kit comes from the Fujimi mold and comes with high quality Cartograf decals and a masking kit to facilitate painting. The 1:72 scale allows for a detailed rendering of a medium sized aircraft. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Aichi E16A Zuiun (Allied codename "Paul") was a Japanese deck reconnaissance seaplanen with a remarkable design - it combined the ability to take off from water with performance approaching that of single-engine fighters. It was developed in response to the Imperial Japanese Navy's requirement for a modern reconnaissance aircraft capable of operating from cruiser and battleship catapults or from shore bases. Unlike older, slower types, the Zuiun had sufficient speed and agility to defend itself against enemy fighters in a pinch. In practice, these machines were particularly useful for reconnaissance, bombing smaller targets, and escorting convoys. For modellers, the E16A is interesting for its elegant lines, characteristic floats and relatively rich armament (machine guns, bombsights).
The Hobby 2000 kit is based on the proven Fujimi mould, offering good detail and accuracy of parts in 1:72 scale. The "Early" version corresponds to the early production E16A1 series, which featured specific details of the cockpit, armament and floats. Included are high quality decals from the Italian company Cartograf, known for their sharp printing, thin foiland easy to apply - they allow to process several historical variants with authentic unit markings. The included masking kit facilitates painting of transparent parts (cab, machine gun covers) and helps to achieve clean edges without the need for manual masking.
When building, it is advisable to pay attention to the fitting of the floats, which form a characteristic part of the silhouette, and to the cockpit details, which are clearly visible in this scale. The colour scheme corresponds to the typical Japanese naval paint scheme - dark green upper surface, light underneath, with the possibility of highlighting wear, operational pollution and salty environments. The kit is suitable for intermediate modellers interested in Japanese aviation and less common aircraft types. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
