1/48 MH-6J Little Bird US Special Forces Helicopter

The Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) program, announced by the U.S. Army in the early 1960s, led to the development of the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse light helicopter, which became the basis for a family of successful machines. After McDonnell Douglas took over the production rights, a number of other versions were produced, including the MD 500 and MD 530 types. It was from these designs that the MH-6J Little Bird was based, specially modified to meet the needs of the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), known as the "Night Stalkers".

The MH-6J is a lightweight, single-engine helicopter with a conventional main and tail rotor configuration and a simple skid landing gear. Its compact size, high maneuverability and ability to operate in tight quarters make it an ideal for special operations, especially the rapid drop-off and pick-up of small teams. A typical feature of this version is the two side benches allowing up to four soldiers to be carried outside the fuselage, a hallmark of the "Little Bird".

Units of the 160th SOAR deploy MH-6J helicopters around the world in covert and high-risk operations, often in nighttime conditions. Together with the armed variant of the AH-6, the MH-6 has become a symbol of modern U.S. Army special operations aviation.
