The Chevrolet G506 was one of the most widely used American trucks 2. World War II in the 1.5-ton category and served in a variety of roles from general transport to specialized bodies. It was its rugged chassis and easy serviceability that often made it the basis for workshop and salvage modifications that were indispensable in the field. When equipment became stranded, damaged or needed a quick repair off-site, tow trucks and service vans stepped in to keep the units moving.

The tow truck version typically features a recovery arm, winch and support equipment for field service work. This makes it an ideal "story" model - it works well as the centrepiece of a dioramaof a diorama with a broken-down vehicle, a repair team, supplies and an improvised maintenance station. It fits both the roadside scene, the depot, the equipment assembly area, and the workshop area in the rear, alternating between towing, repairing and preparing vehicles for the next deployment.
