1/35 Sherman M4A1 76W

The M4 Sherman medium tank was the backbone of the American armored forces and the main tank of the Allies in Western Europe during World War II. The tank was developed as a successor to the M3 Lee type, with the aim of providing a vehicle with a fully rotating turret and main armament. Although the original Sherman with its 75mm gun was effective against most German tanks in the early stages of the war, with thewith the advent of heavier and better armoured vehicles such as the Panther and Tiger, its firepower proved inadequate.

In response to this threat, a new 76mm high-velocity cannon, the M1, was developed. This cannon gave the Sherman significantly improved penetration and gave it the chance to effectively engage enemy tanks at longer ranges. The "W" in the M4A1 (76)W name stands for "wet stowage", referring to the new design of the ammunition racks, which were surrounded by water and ethylene glycol. This design greatly reduced the risk of a catastrophic ammunition explosion after a tank hit, which was one of the biggest shortcomings of the original versions. The M4A1 variant was characterized by its cast, rounded hull, which is easily distinguishable from versions with welded hulls. M4A1 (76)W tanks began appearing on the battlefields of Europe in the summer of 1944.
