1/35 Sd.Kfz.234/3 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen Stummel Late
MiniArt 1/35 Sd.Kfz.234/3 Schwerer Panzerspähwagen "Stummel" Late is a plastic model of a WWII Wehrmacht heavy wheeled reconnaissance vehicle. The kit features a late production version with a short 75mm gun and includes a detailed battle space, photo-pasted parts and decals for several markings. The eight-wheeled chassis with independent suspension allows the characteristic appearance of this type to be faithfully captured. The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Sd.Kfz.234/3 "Stummel" (translated as "stump" - a nickname referring to the short barrel) was a heavy wheeled armoured reconnaissance vehicle developed in the final phase of World War II as part of the Sd.Kfz.234 family of vehicles. This series represented the pinnacle of German wheeled armoured vehicle development and combined the excellent off-road capability of the eight-wheeled chassis with relatively strong armour and effective armament. The 234/3 version was armed with the KwK 37 L/24 short 75mm gun (the same type originally used on early versions of the Panzer IV tank), which provided reconnaissance units with direct fire support capability. While the short barrel limited penetration against armoured targets, it allowed effective firing of fragmentation shells against infantry, fortifications and lightly armoured vehicles.
Late production versions were characterized by minor design modifications and simplifications appropriate to wartime production conditions. The vehicle served primarily in reconnaissance units of armoured and motorised divisions, where its combination of mobility, firepower and armour protection enabled it to perform tasks ranging from reconnaissance to support of advancing troops. The eight-wheel drive all-wheel drive and four-wheel front-wheel steering provided excellent maneuverability and the ability to move over difficult terrain, which was crucial for a reconnaissance vehicle.
The 1:35 scale MiniArt kit offers a detailed model with an emphasis on accuracy and quantity of parts. Included are photo-etched parts for the finer elements (grilles, mounts, armament details) and decals allowing the vehicle to be assembled in several historical markings. The detailed fighting compartment allows for building with an open or partially exposed crew compartment, adding to the attractiveness of the finished model. The chassis and suspension are crafted with an emphasis on functional appearance, allowing the characteristic silhouette of the eight-wheeled vehicle to be faithfully captured. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
