The Kfz.2 (Kraftfahrzeug 2) was a light passenger vehicle used by the German Army as a radio vehicle for command and communications purposes. Built on a civilian Mercedes-Benz 170V chassis, specifically the off-road variant 170VK (Kübelwagen), it was a reliable and unobtrusive solution for transporting radio equipment and personnel in the field and in the hinterland. The vehicle was equipped with radio stations enabling communication between command posts, units in the field and higher levels of command. In practice, the Kfz.2 appeared at divisional, regimental and individual unit headquarters, where it provided communications crucial to the coordination of operations. Due to the civilian origin of the chassis, the vehicle was relatively compact, economical and easy to maintain, which was especially appreciated by units operating in the early phase of the war, when logistics were not yet fully developed.
MiniArt's 1:35 scale kit offers a detailed treatment of this less common but historically important type. The model features an elaborate interior with radio equipment, control panels and other features characteristic of communications vehicles, allowing for presentation with open doors or a removable roof. Included are photo-etched parts for finer details and decals with 4 variants of markings covering different units and periods of deployment. The kit is suitable for dioramas of command posts, liaison units in action or as an addition to 1939-1942 combat vehicles and infantry. The package does not include the paints or glues needed for assembly.
