Known for its exceptional agility and long range, the Zero was unbeatable during the early years of the war in the Pacificbut with the arrival of more modern Allied fighters, it had to be gradually improved. The A6M5 Model 52 introduced design modifications that increased its speed, pilot protection, and structural strength.
This version had shortened wings with fixed tips for better handling at high speeds and more powerful armament. The aircraft was equipped with two 20 mm calibre guns and two 13.2 mm calibre machine guns, allowing it to fight more effectively against modern Allied machines such as the American Hellcats and Corsairs.
