1/32 MiG-21MF antennas and sensors
Aires 1/32 MiG-21MF antennas and sensors is a resin add-on set designed for detailed upgrades of 1:32 scale plastic kits of MiG-21MF (typically Trumpeter kits). It contains precisely made antenna and sensor elements (IFF, RSBN, SOD, SRO and others) that replace simplified plastic parts and increase the fidelity of the model to the real aircraft. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
The MiG-21MF (NATO code "Fishbed-J") was one of the most widely used variants of the Soviet MiG-21 supersonic fighter aircraft, produced from the early 1970s. The MiG-21 was first produced in the early 1970s and exported to a number of Warsaw Pact countries and other USSR allies. Compared to earlier versions, the MiG-21 brought an improved RP-22 Sapfir-21 radar, improved avionics systems, and most of thefuel tanks, making it a versatile machine for aerial combat and attacks on ground targets. The hallmark of the MiG-21MF was the array of external antennas and sensors scattered around the fuselage - from the IFF (Identification own units) to RSBN navigation (precise guidance to base) to SOD range finders and SRO transponders for communication with ground control. These elements were crucial for operation in the dense air traffic of the Eastern Bloc and for coordination during combat missions.
For modelers who want to achieve maximum detail, these antenna and sensor elements are a challenge - plastic kits often simplify or omit them due to the technological limits of injection moulding. The Aires 1/32 MiG-21MF antenna and sensors resin add-on set fills this gap: It contains precision-molded and scale-correct parts to replace antenna blades, rods and covers that mount on the fuselage back, under the fuselage and on the tail surfaces. Thanks to resin, fine details such as the thickness of the antennas, the shape of the bases or the transitions between the fuselage surface and the element itself can be captured, which plastic parts cannot. The set is designed primarily for Trumpeter 1:32 scale kits, but can be used with modifications for other manufacturers.
Installation requires careful removal of the resin parts from the carriers, cleaning up the castings, and gluing with instant or epoxy glue. The antenna elements are usually painted in matte black or gray according to reference photos of the specific machine; some variants carry camouflage matching the fuselage. It is recommended to consult photo documentation of actual MiG-21MFs (for example, Czechoslovak, Polish or Indian versions), as the placement and type of antennas may have varied according to export configuration and period of service. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
