Kit of German WWII bomber Dornier Do 17Z.
The first Do-17C prototype was flown on 23 November 1934. Soon the prototype received the type designation Do-17 V1. In May and September 1935 the first flights of two more prototypes Do-17 V2 / V3 took place. From the very beginning the Luftfahrtkommissariat showed great interest in the new design. The first prototype of the Do-17 V1 was built exclusively for military aviation, while the next two prototypes were developed as passenger aircraft. The military version of the aircraft had two fuselage bomb chambers located on the right side of its central section, each capable of holding five 50 kg bombs suspended vertically. The Do-17 V1 crew consisted of three people: the pilot occupying the seat on the left side of the cabin, the navigator-bomber behind him and the gunner-radiotelegrapher. In both side walls of the fuselage there were four small windows providing the gunner with better visibility. Already at the beginning of 1936 the serial production of the Do-17E-1 and F-1 versions was prepared. Soon the production of both versions was started. The Do-17F-1 aircrafts were deprived of bomb sights and ejectors, but were equipped with an additional fuel tank and three fixed-band photographic cameras. In 1937, the Do-17E-2 and E-3 versions were built, followed by the Do-17F-2, which differed slightly in equipment from their predecessors. In total, 536 Do-17 E and F planes were produced, 268 of them at the home plant and the rest under licence at other plants. Since the beginning of 1937 the machines have been used by the Luftwaffe units. The most widely manufactured version was the Do-17Z model, which was produced in the number of 872 copies. The plane has proved itself very well during the Spanish Civil War and the Spanish Campaign. It also participated in the fights against France and in the Battle of Britain in 1940. It suffered relatively high losses there, which meant that after 1940 it was successively replaced in the line units by the Ju-88 and He-111 bombers. The withdrawn Do-17s were mainly used as glider tugs. Technical data (Do-17Z version): Maximum speed: 410 km/h, maximum ceiling: 8200 m, operating radius: 1010 km, armament: fixed-6 MG15 machine guns cal.7,92mm suspended-do 1000kg bombs.
