Gusto - 340 Sqn. RAF - Fighter Group "ILE DE FRANCE" 1941-1945
326 pages, 800 photos + colour profiles, hardcover, fomat 23 x 31 cm, french language.
The Ile de France Group, 340th Squadron of the RAF, was the first fighter unit of the Free French, operating on the European front between 1941 and 1945.
This fighter group, composed entirely of French pilots, took part in missions designed to repel the penetration flights of Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Focke Wulf Fw 190 over the Great
Britain. It provided escort to RAF bombers over France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany and eventually developed attack missions associated with the landings, the Battle of Normandy and the liberation campaign.
This history of the FAFL has never been the subject of a detailed study. It is reported here based on the testimonies, flight logs, individual diaries and combat reports of these French airmen.
This book finally offers the peculiarity of presenting the unpublished testimony of the survivors of this adventure who spontaneously, with great generosity and accuracy, agreed to participate in the writing of this historical chronicle.
This work, illustrated with more than 800 photographs, most of them unpublished, was written with the kind assistance of Amicale FAFL to commemorate the extraordinary adventure of the free French hunters.
